Humility

The virtue of humility is not called the foundation virtue for no reason. Without humility no other virtue can be obtained, and its extent of practice determines what virtues can be obtained. The modern world sees humility as a degrading virtue or one that means we must despise or mistrust ourselves. Even some have gone so far as saying, "humility is the worst form of conceit," meaning that a person who practices humility wants to be looked upon as better or more special than others. How utterly ridiculous! Humility is recognizing the talents God has given, acknowledging that they are and all they enable you to accomplish are His gifts, and then using them to the best of your ability, unto the glory of God, not of self. Saint Maria Goretti's humility showed foremost when she welcomed the many humble domestic tasks and did them as best she could.
