"The sins which bring most souls to hell are the sins of the flesh. Certain fashions are going to be introduced which will offend Our Lord very much... the Church has no fashions; Our Lord is always the same..." Our Lady to Blessed Jacinta Marto

"Either we must speak as we dress, or dress as we speak. Why do we profess one thing and display another? The tongue talks of chastity, but the whole body reveals impurity." St. Jerome

Modesty

Modesty is a virtue that must be on top of the list of virtues, because without it, we will not be able to work at obtaining other virtues or perfecting them. Modesty is fundamental to a pure, chaste, and humble young woman. A modest young woman is one who sees herself as God made her and accepts who she is by not hiding her feminity nor making use of it as a source of vanity or sin. Saint Maria's beauty went much deeper than her outer appearance and those who knew her well would comment on her kindness, modesty in the way of humility, and cheerfulness rather than her beautiful auburn hair or lovely complexion. However, Saint Maria knew that what was seen on the outside, was a sign of what could be found on the inside and Saint Maria's outward appearance exhibited her inward appearance. She dressed well and prettily, always neat and clean. Her soul was the same.

"Modesty in a woman is the sign that Jesus Christ dwells in her heart. It is a sweet perfume of edification which she is called upon to diffuse." from the Fatima Crusader

To say that "...modesty is a matter of custom" is just as wrong as to say that, "...honesty is a matter of custom."
